[Catch Galo in the library, looking through some books. He's in the historical section, trying to find anything with a good picture of a matoi in it, but not having much luck.]
[ henlo it's your neighborhood walking historian, here to also browse through the historical section. though he's looking for Clues and maybe information ]
[Nodding! Showing him a print that has a group of firemen in it.]
See? Look and be amazed! Gaze upon the heroic hikeshi who faced fires with nothing but their bare hands, burning spirits, and the inspiration of their matoi! I need to find a better picture so Purple will know what I'm talking about when I ask for my stuff back.
How cool. You seem rather knowledgeable about them.
[ he's trying so hard to hide a smile. what a fanboy. Hori certainly has some vague recollection of them in action but the shinsengumi were usually out of the area by the time they arrived ]
I made mine into a grappling hook. Plus, if I spin it really fast, it can work like a fan! I believe that the spirits of the ancient firefighters who came before me would approve wholeheartedly of these techniques.
[ okay, so the mental image is hilarious to imagine. but the idea of it is kind've neat. ]
I'd say so! You certainly are keeping the spirit of the hikeshi alive. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to hear that someone continue their tradition after so many centuries.
[Nothing anyone has said has ever made him happier? Grinning so huge. He's so excited he may even do the unthinkable, and ask Hori a question about himself instead of only talking about his own interests.]
I'm Galo, by the way. Galo Thymos. The rookie firefighter of Burning Rescue!
[ HENLO HERE'S HORI. here's hori attempting to make tea. with the lack of feeling in his hands, that sure is a pot of water getting knocked over to the ground as he quietly curses the mess it makes. ]
Anyways. Hori is surprisingly not fully functional awake yet, still desperately trying to catch up on sleep and rest after the week previous. which of course means trying to enter the kitchen means he just bounces off it instead. That sure is a crash of a bounce and a quiet pause of an ouch from him. ]
[ comes from the floor. give him a minute to like, crawl in for that sweet caffeine and stop when he realizes whats happened in the ten seconds since he tried to walk in the first time ]
[ but of course with one memory immediately comes another.
It’s a short one that’s for certain, the angle strange. There’s a pressure of a hand upon them as they sprint down the dirt streets, heading away from the yelling and screaming but a voice that calls out stops them. The eye catching blue of the shinsengumi robes certainly are familiar, along with the the others face. Okita Souji is definitely one to be remembered which only means the one above them could only be Hijikata Toshizo, back when he wielded Horikana Kunihiro and Izuminokami Kanesada together. What they say remains muffled although it breaks off as soon as running feet head towoards them, both ducking into an alley when a group of hikeshi run past. As both of them slip away, the memory breaks apart, fading into the blackness of the night ]
We had a whole conversation about how my greatest passion besides firefighting is the noble heritage those firefighting traditions come from! And here I find you witnessed those traditions with your own eyes and never told me!
[Hmph! He doesn't seem to realize he only ever talked at him about this.]
Al...right......? [ ARE YOU SURE GALO...? ] I was forged sometime kyōroku year four by the swordsmith Horikawa Kunihiro. Much of my history has been lost to both time [ because no one can confirm if he actually exists or not, haha f. ] until my last master, Hijikata Toshizo carried my blade. I was with him for many, many years until he met his fate that day in Hakodate. After then...... I changed hands many times over until I along with many other blades were thrown into the sea, never to be found again.

Oh-! Hello.

[Giving him a grin, and then saying - ]
Just so you know, I'm not some kind of dork. I'm reading these for an important reason.
no subject
I'm........glad?
[ though he'll give a cursory glance at the collection out of curiosity. anything interesting in that pile .....? ]

no subject
[ he sounds absolutely intrigued that this weirdo blue man is into history he knows personally ]
no subject
[Despite his protesting he's not a dork, he's instantly enthusiastic.]
I know all about the history of Japan. [Well, that's definitely an exaggeration.] Specifically, the great traditions of firefighting!
no subject
[ this is adorable ]
That's incredible.

Purple......? Do you mean Plum-san?
no subject
[Making a gesture as he explains.]
I'm the world's foremost expert on fighting fires with matoi!
no subject
I thought they were more for signaling for others than for the fires themselves.....?
no subject
[That only gets him more excited! Someone else who knows about it.]
That's true! But in this modern day and age, old technology has to adapt! That's why I use mine for all sorts of different functions.
no subject
[ somehow coming out and saying I Existed During That Era sounds like it'd be a disaster ]
But you are right. Using old methods to solve new problems certainly need more than just it's original function.
[ the face he makes at saying that ]

Careful! Don't burn yourself!
no subject
It's alright, it didn't get on me.
[ he says like his hand isn't turning pink as he speaks, from where he's patting at the spilled water ]

[Hurrying to get a towel and to help clean it up.]
no subject
[ looks down, hms quietly at his pink fingers. ]
Oh! ... Haha, I can't feel that at all. [ despite the stiffness in his attempt at flexing, he looks more baffled than anything. ]
no subject
[Turning on the sink to a medium cool temperature.]
no subject
It certainly feels odd to do so when this body says there's absolutely nothing wrong.
[ but he complies since Galo is standing here ]
no subject
[Wow? Anyway, letting him run his hands under the water.]
I just got problems seeing and reading things up close. But I got off easy, seems like.
no subject
Eeh. He's certainly going to wonder why he hurts if things were to suddenly right itself. [ like it's not gonna be Fun for him too come sunday, haha ]
But it certainly seems that way, however. I wonder what caused us to have such vastly reactions.

Are you serious? That memory was yours?
no subject
Mm. Edo period, as well as I remember it.

no subject
Technically I was born in the Sengoku era but, I suppose it just never came up...

[Hmph! He doesn't seem to realize he only ever talked at him about this.]

no subject
[ got it in one ]
no subject
He's just squinting, like he's trying to understand, and then.]
Oh. Cool!
no subject
Isn't it?
no subject
And you were a shinsengumi sword, too? Awww, man, this is so crazy! I mean, personally, I like hikeshi better, but still.
no subject
Mm! Ah...... I wish the others were here with me too. I'm sure the others would have even more recollection of hikeshi than I do.
